Create a Community They Want to Be In


What kind of workplace does your employee want?

Today people are looking for a place they can make a difference.

People are seeking significance and meaning and they don’t want to be part of something that simply feeds into someone else’s bank account or helps a company’s bottom line. Your employees are looking for community. This is especially true for millennials who are looking for a cause, something in which they can invest their time and talents and lives. If you want to find out what this community looks like, ask. Ask them about a time they were part of a community that was special for them. What was that group? What made it special? If they are no longer a part of it, why is this so? People will often cite their school days or a group they enjoyed which no longer exists. What are the characteristics of that community and how can you incorporate some of its elements in your workplace?
